The "blogosphere's" left half

According to an article on metafilter, "the community weblog," the progressive side of the blogosphere is abuzz with news of a projected majority vote for Hillary Clinton.

I find it laughable that the blogosphere's left side consists of two pages, Kos and Atrios.

Any topic from the right side, and you could easily link 6 blogs per sentence, as opposed to two.

Utica College Commencement, 2005

I graduated this Sunday, Magna Cum Laude, with Intermediate Honors and Biology Honors. It was a good day. Because of this I was given a gold tassel along with the standard black one. It was a crowning achievement after four years indeed.

After the ceremony there was a reception at Utica College, where I conversed with my professors and friends for an hour or so. Notably, one of my professors pulled me aside and asked me if I would be interested in teaching biology to students over the summer. Totally floored, I responded with an enthusiastic "yes!" She said normally they ask a Master's student but she thought that I could handle it. I consider that a huge compliment and assuming she can convince the powers that be that a B.S. can do a good job, I'll be thrilled to death to do some teaching. I'm supposed to help them refine skills necessary to succeed in biology, and hopefully I will be able to do just that.

And now to the pictures:
This is me with the dean and my friend Kristen, before the ceremony:

Here, President Hutton gives his address:

Finally this is my little brother after stealing my regalia:

Student Suspended for Phone Call from His Mother in Iraq

This is appalling

The kid's mother called him from Iraq. On his lunch hour, and now he's suspended for the rest of the year.

I've been anti-zero-tolerance policies for years because they fly in the face of simple logic. They're simply a hedge to allow administrators to say they are bound by policy which enables them to distribute egregious penalties for trivial offenses. And this is just that, a trivial offense.

Student Suspended for Phone Call from His Mother in Iraq

This is disgusting

I've longsince been anti-zero tolerance policies because they exist an a hedge for school administrators to claim that their hands are tied in ridiculous situations. This is one such cituation.

The kid's mother is in Iraq. He may never see her again. She called during his lunch hour. As a friend to someone that lost a brother in Iraq I find this appalling.

Technically speaking, I hate Adobe Reader

Sometimes this blog goes from political to technical. Today is a day for the latter.

Adobe Reader's favorite thing to do is check for updates, which slows it down and pops up dialogue boxes for me to click through. This I find frustrating, especially considering that only one update is for Reader itself and the other two are for bonus programs Adobe wants me to install on my computer. I don't want those programs. Hell, I don't even want Reader anymore. I don't really care about point updates for most of my programs.

I'm no crony to Microsoft, but they've got their own PDF alternative coming soon, and all I can say is that if it's not going to litter my screen with useless dialogues, I'll be happy.

Laura Bush the Comic

"George's answer to any problem at the ranch, is to cut it down with a chainsaw.

Which I think is why he and Cheney and Rumsfeld get along so well."

-Laura Bush

Some people are upset at Laura Bush's jokes, but I thought they were pretty fun. People need to loosen up a bit.
